The Medical
Office Assistant has a variety of responsibilities,
including greeting and directing patients, answering telephones,
updating and maintaining electronic medical records, obtaining
insurance verification and authorization, admitting and
scheduling patients, processing medical insurance claim
forms, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory
services.

assistant is responsible for patient and medical insurance billing, medical collections,
accounts receivable and payable, general bookkeeping and other medical
office assisting duties that are required for efficient
health care delivery and reimbursement.

ABOUT
THE MOA PROGRAM
The
Medical Office Assistant Program
(MOA) at PCI
Health Training Center
prepares a graduate to work as an entry-level medical front
office assistant: receptionist, medical billing, medical
collections, appointment scheduler, front office clinic
support or medical records clerk in a variety of healthcare
settings. Including physicians offices, physician medical
centers, clinics, community health centers, public and
private hospitals, insurance offices, military health services,
nursing homes, ambulatory care centers, medical billing
offices and related healthcare service businesses.
The Medical Office Assistant Program
is designed specifically to provide students with necessary
office management and technical skills to become an integral
part of the professional office environment. Increasingly,
doctors and healthcare facilities are in need of well-trained,
highly skilled workers to assist them with the ever growing
demands of medical information data coding, insurance billing,
record processing, storage, and retrieval in order to provide
efficient health care delivery and financial reimbursement.
Medical office assistants are trained in areas including
medical terminology, computer application skills, medical
administrative and medical billing software, medical records
management and basic medical front office functions.
Students will concentrate on medical terminology, medical
assistant ethics and OSHA regulations, computer skills /
data processing training, medical records management, patient
charting, medical billing practices and medical insurance
filing procedures and learn a variety of medical / dental
office administration procedures. You will develop medical
office administrative skills including: bookkeeping, medical
billing and collection, medical records training, patient
data collection, typing, medical insurance claims, medical
record management, medical transcription, medical coding,
CPT codes Icd9 medical diagnostic codes, word processing,
appointment scheduling, written correspondence and telephone
techniques.
MOA students will demonstrate these skills by utilizing
medical administrative software such as Medisoft among others
to schedule patient appointments, input patient medical
and insurance information, insurance diagnosis coding, insurance
billing, collection procedures and produce a variety of
medical office reports. After successfully completing the
in class portion of training MOA students will be provided
the opportunity to use their newly acquire skills, knowledge
and abilities in an actual real world medical job setting.
